We’ve been busy as Bees lately preparing quotes. We can’t remember a time when so many people were enquiring about improving their websites. Let us just offer these Free tips to any online business owners even before offering any services.
Looking to Improve Website Performance? Avoid Free or low-cost website builder platforms
Avoid Free or low-cost website builder platforms, such as Wix and Squarespace, 1&1 builder, etc.
Whilst they can produce good-looking websites, Google does NOT care what your website looks like….it cares about how the website works. These free platforms are free for a reason; they come with serious limitations, and they work on a subscription model for the enhanced versions, but the limitations remain. Whilst we can still offer advice to WIX and Squarespace customers, it is our recommendation that you seek to upgrade from these platforms if you’re serious about making an impact on your business.

Does it load quickly? *especially on Mobile phones?
Google judges and grades all websites with its “mobile-first index”, which means that it assesses how your site works on a phone before it assesses how it works on a computer. Even if most of your traffic comes via computer, it’s still being ranked on a mobile standard. So it’s important that we fix any issues that might be slowing your website down. We do this by checking speed scores and then taking action to fix the code that might be causing the issues. You can test your own website speed here with the Google Pagespeed checker.
Does it target your local area?
A lot of businesses that only want to reach local customers complain that they have low visibility in their local area. To grow your visibility locally, you need to focus on your Google Business profile. It’s the easiest and quickest win. There are a number of steps you have to take to complete your profile to a satisfactory level.
In addition, you’ll need local listing management, which basically means making a consistent listing on all the web directories or as many as you can. Another tip is to ensure that all your key service pages target the local area with relevant wording, and if you can, images and video.
- Does it describe what you do and how you do it in a useful way?
Many companies Waffle. It’s corporate techno-babble. Don’t do it. Just come to the point, your audience has a limited attention span.
So:
“Ayup, we’re Ace Windows, so called because our windows are ACE. We fit all across the East Midlands at competitive prices. Interested in a free quote? Call this number now. 012345 678 901”
is generally way better than some flamboyant and self-indulgent drivel about…
“…harnessing your long-term commitment to reducing the carbon footprint”.
*Though, to be fair, it depends on your target market. Certain markets will require a more refined approach.
Are you answering your audience’s questions?
Google has rolled out the helpful content update. This update assesses the ability of your website to deliver the content that your audience wants…
So, make sure that each of your service pages actually addresses the key and frequent questions that your customers will ask when seeking your goods and services.
If it’s all self-indulgent twaddle, down the rankings you will go.
If you’d like to know more, without a hard sell.
